That Racecar
The Friendly Mobile Service #5 was built in Agawam, MA in 1965 to compete at the famous Riverside Park Speedway. It passed through a series of owners in Connecticut, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, before ending up on a farm in Virginia. In that time it had been used in vintage events and then eventually turned into a dirt track car. We brought it back to Connecticut and spent about a year returning it to its correct livery. In the process we managed to locate the original builders and owners who supplied us with period built photographs and documents. #5 is now a favorite at vintage events all over New England and is also a competitive car in the Vintage Modified Sportsman class. Itβs a 1936 Ford Coupe with a 1954 Chevrolet Frame and is currently running a 400 cubic-inch GM small block V-8. You can see #5 in action in some our episodes of The Number!
